My friend and his cloud

W is a friend of mine that I’ve known for some time. If you have just met W, you may think of him as being quiet, an introvert, maybe a little shy even. However, once you get to know him, you will realise that your initial impressions of him could not be more wrong. W is a man with many talents. But most of it is hidden beneath that unassuming apperance of his. One of his forte is public speaking. And once he speaks, his intelligent humour will tickle you, his knowledge of literature and the arts will amaze you, and you will wonder how can you be so wrong about him!

Today, he married his sweetheart from afar, and as his friend, I am truly happy and privileged to be able to capture the moments at they occured. The day was made more special to me because the wedding was held in the church that I used to worship in, and I was really looking foward to seeing it and all my old friends again.

And if you are wondering why “cloud”, well, thats a secret!

Ubin Adventure

I can hardly remember the last time I visited Pulau Ubin. However, I still remember the rustic charm that beckons visitors to the little island. It is a haven for photography as well, with all the kampong houses, coconut trees and lush greenery scattered throughout. So it was with a sense of anticipation that I went with Chen Siang and Su Ping to this island northeast of Singapore for their engagement shoot!

One of the best things about being a photographer is that I get to direct my couples according to my whims and fancies during the photography session. Chen Siang and Su Ping is one of the most sporting couples I know who really followed what I asked them to do. Neither swarms of mosquitos nor physically challenging activities deterred them. I am really impressed by their “professionalism” haha.

It was a blast cycling around the island looking for cool looking spots. I almost felt like being back to my young and carefree days again! Here are some of my favourite pictures for the day.

No, this is not abuse but a loving swat on Su Ping's face when Chen Siang spotted a mosquito on her cheek

My new “eye”

Contrary to what many of you folks may think, I do not like to carry DSLRs most of the time. They are big, they are heavy, they are cumbersome, and they attract attention when you do not want it. In short, they can be a real pain sometimes.

Unfortunately for me, I need them because of their ability to produce really great quality images which lesser cameras are not able to. Fortunately for you, you can always expect the best quality images from me :)

Shameless plug aside, I have recently acquired a new toy. It is a small point and shoot camera! Believe me when I tell you this little fella packs a powerful punch when it comes to photography. It’s picture quality is impressive for a camera this small, and it feels really good in my hands. Apparantly, this camera has reached “cult status” in Japan!

I think I will bring this little guy out everywhere I go from now. Snap snap here, snap snap there.. yummy…

Here are some snaps that I took with this little guy to share with you…

Some textures…

There's just some blur niceness about this picture that I like!

Campus Nostalgia

I’m sure many of us have special memories of places that hold special significance in our lives. For Xian and Kathy, one of such places is at their university campus! This is there they got to know each other better during their courtship years. And this is one of the reasons why they wanted to have their engagement session at their campus.

Xian and Kathy are my friends in church and they are really a sweet couple. Through our photography session, I got to know some of the places that hold special memories for them, such as the coffee club xpress cafe and the bus stop where they often waited for the bus together. Time flew by and guess what? They’ll be tying the knot this August! I had a great time listening to their stories and taking their pictures along the way. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding =)

We had some time after the campus shoot, so we thought we’d zip to the double helix bridge at Marina to check the place out. It was so crowded but it did not faze us to grab some shots before the sun went down!

London – Paris II

After 5 days in London, it was off to Paris! Our first impressions of the city of lights was that it is a really charming city, with its myraid of historical buildings and classical architecture. About every turn and corner in the city centre, you will almost always see buildings that are of some historical significance. There is one regret that I have, and that was not being able to climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower and view the city at night. I am sure that the night scene of Paris would be nothing short of magical…

Oh well, perhaps next time. Some of my favourite images to share with you…

One of the must see places in Paris - The Musée du Louvre, or the Louvre Museum is one of the largest Museum in the world, and one that is most visited. If you have seen The Da Vinci Code, you would find this place familiar

Some of the paintings in the museum are so large it is amazing!

Another view of the Louvre Museum

A typical street scene in Paris - bustling with a hive of activity

Could not resist taking a shot of my darling with the golden sunlight behind her!

A view of Notre Dame Catherdral from the Seine River

I'm sure you know what this is

A view from the bus tour of Paris that we took. It was a great way to see the city in relative comfort and you also get to hear an audio commentary on places of interest as the bus passes them by

A frontal view of La Madeleine - which is actually a church, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. Construction of this building started in 1764!

One of the most famous avenues in Paris, or indeed the world - The Champs-Elysées. This stretch of road has seen so many momentous events of historical significance - such as the marching of the German army celebrating the Fall of France, to her liberation march by French and American forces 4 years later

A view of The Arc de Triomphe - commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to commemorate his victories.

A building whose name I have forgotten

If you are into shopping, this is one of the streets you must check out!

I caought sight of this beauty at Rue Saint-Honore. For car lovers, you know how special this car is!

Just love the sunlight being reflected off the golden statues on top of the building...

Declarations of love by unknown couples in the form of locks that you can find throughout the many bridges across the Seine River

Love this picture because it reminds me of a painting!
